Tarot is commonly used to give you guidance in your own life but what about getting a Tarot spread about another person? Can you find out how they feel or how things are going for them?

The topic of privacy and the Tarot is interesting. It can certainly be used to look into things that someone might not want you looking at but usually it comes down to the ethics of you and the reader. Not to mention why you want the reading done to begin with.

I offer free Tarot readings here on Tarot Guru if you want a hand understanding romantic feelings for example. However I won’t help you peer inside another relationship or otherwise invade their privacy.

I’ve been reading cards for 26 years and as part of my code of ethics, I say I will not read for 3rd parties. In other words, I won’t use the tarot as a tool for one person to spy on another. That’s unethical.

With that said, if you’re having a relationship problem, then the other person will definitely come up in the reading. I will only give information that pertains to the relationship of the client to that person. So I’d answer “What can I do to improve my relationship with [PERSON]?” but I wouldn’t answer “Is my ex happy and seeing someone else?”

A big part of being a professional tarot reader is knowing how to rephrase questions that you can answer to help your client. In the situation above, I could read for “what can I do to repair the relationship with my son?”, for example. I go with themes of empowerment; I wouldn’t look at the health and/or marriage of the estranged son, since those are none of her business. The client has a CHOICE on how to proceed and that’s likely what I would emphasize.

Every once in a while, and it is rare, I get a client who is not happy that I won’t tell them information about a third party, and at that time I nicely terminate the reading. If I’ve taken any money from them, I refund it, but I normally never take money before I do a reading just to ensure people get what they felt they would.

It’s a fine line to walk, but it’s important to know where your personal line is. That’s my professional viewpoint.

If you read cards for yourself and you want to ask about other people, well…that’s up to you. You’ve got to decide for yourself if it’s the right thing for you to do.
