The empress can be a frustrating card to pick when looking for romance at first glance. However she does also represent feminine power. Go girls! We all look for answers to questions in our lives. For those who are into the spiritual and the magical side of our lives, tarot spreads offer answers to pressing issues.

Relationships are tricky enough at the best of times. If you want to know whether a relationship is going well, is going to end well or leave you sobbing into a puddle of ice cream, read on to find out what the empress tarot card means for relationships.

The Empress is a meaningful card in a relationship reading but that said I think it’s important to add a warning.

If it’s a single card you’re relying on, it’s easy to get a completely reverse meaning. After years of Tarot readings I personally hate single card readings. I juts said the same thing talking about the King of Pentacles in future love. But it’s important.

After many, many years giving Tarot readings I really don’t like relying on a single card for a meaning. If you’d like me to do a tarot spread for you just click here and send me the details. Your reading will be sent to you within a few hours tops.

I love this card. The Empress is The Mother.

She holds the shield of the Emporer, suggesting that she is defended by him, as is his realm which she symbolizes. In the Marseilles version there is what appears to be a wing under her “seat” & the left wing of the eagle on the shield appears stump-like, In medieval times there was the practice of burying a single eagle’s wing under the soil where crops were grown to weaken the power of Jupiter, who might destroy them with his hail storms, so Ceres / Demeter the fertile land. I like to think that the three interlaced rings in the Visconti version combines agriculture, people, architecture, the three aspects of the realm.

The empress sits serenely under a golden sky, in the midst of a lush, flowing and calm forest. Her throne padded with pillows and cushions to support her, the empress wears a flowing white robe, embroidered with flowers. One hand sits upon her knee. The other slightly raised to rest upon her sceptre. She gazes up on a field of wheat next to a heart shaped shield emblazoned with the symbol of venus.

Amidst all her wealth, she has no time for others. She is blinded by her own prosperity and cannot see what is around her. The empress represents a run of good luck that should not be taken for granted. The empress tarot doesn’t necessarily mean that the good thing is ended, but the future may be in jeopardy.

A twin to the emperor, elusive, mysterious and always calm, her main meaning is pregnancy, but not necessarily your own, it could be the pregnancy of someone close to you. In general terms the empress represents prosperity that must be appreciated either because it may soon end, or because taking it for granted will cause it end.

In general, The Empress is a positive sign for a relationship outcome but there’s only so much she can tell us by herself.
