Tarot card readings are used to gain insight on a situation that can indicate the past, present and future. Readings are done as a way to understand and interpret what is indeed going on in your world. They are a type of guide to better handle situations and push you into the right direction, the way that your guides, the universe, and God intend for you to go. All of the cards carry their own message and are unique to everything you are going through. The three of swords has a darker and more depressing message than a lot of the cards.

The three of swords represents heartbreak, loneliness, depression, sadness, trauma, conflict, alienation, grief, confusion, tears and more. If you pull this card it is a bad omen about the person you are with, or the person you are wondering about. There is bound to be destruction in the relationship, and severe pain.

If you pull the three of swords in a tarot reading it generally means that you are going through a very emotionally hard time. You are experiencing loss and heartbreak at a level unlike any before. You and your partner feel differently, there’s a lack of communication, comprehension and trust, and there is simply too much to move on from. You and your “one” are on the outs, and there’s trauma, abuse, and so much hardship in the way of living.

Pulling this card indicates that you will suffer from betrayal. Whether you are cheated on, or taken for granted, or both, there is going to be so much pain and ultimately growth if you allow it to change you and help you become a more understanding and compassionate person with better boundaries and self love.

You will need a lot of alone time after pulling this card. You will need to reflect and meditate on the things that you do, and the type of people that you attract into your life. You will learn the process of healing from not being cared for in the way that you deeply care. So, although this may feel like a curse it is also a blessing. You learn how to relate with others and connect on a level with others that is beyond the surface. The three of swords is not all negative, even though it may feel like it in the moment.

When you are in a relationship with someone and you pull this card it is time to be open and honest. Can you be open with your partner? Can you have a conversation or does everything turn into an argument? Is there a level of maturity that you are both at or is one of you much more emotionally evolved than the other? Be honest and listen to hear instead of respond. Watch how your partner reacts and try to see things from their perspective, as no two people see anything the exact same way. You may be wishing something into existence that is not reality. Pulling the three of swords can indicate that you are fantasizing more than you are facing reality and this is very toxic not only for you, but for your partner as well. It can mean that you are seeing your relationship in one way, when it is really a completely different way. This imbalance is bad even for the chemicals in your brain and confuses attachment with love.

Pulling the three of swords may mean that the person you are with is simply using you for personal gain. Maybe you are an empath and your partner is a narcissist. Or maybe you are a giver and your partner is a taker. They are using you for gains, and they love the feeling of being loved but do not feel anything in return. Have you met someone who loves what you can give but doesn’t love you unconditionally? It is utterly heartbreaking and pulling this card may reveal someones true feelings or lack thereof for you. It will uncover the veil or the pedestal you have placed them on.

The three of swords pulled upright means that you need to heal. You have to heal your inner wounds and conflicts before you can attract a loving and fully devoted partner. If you allow yourself to feel all the turmoil and pain and hurt that people have brought you, you will come out the other side stronger and better. You will lead a path of light for yourself and all those you touch spiritually, emotionally and physically.

If you pull the three of swords reversed this is a sign that you have overcome the unhappiness. You have overcome the pain and the discomfort within the sadness, you have overturned the leaf and are on the way to optimism and success in not only relationships, but also in your career. This could be a sign that you are ready to forgive and move on. You have found help and solace in the comfort of loved ones, family, and friends. It could also mean you are suppressing the healing process and holding on and holding back. It is up to you to let go and forgive.

It may also indicate that you are in a new healthy relationship after ending a toxic one. This one feels different, hopeful, and much more balanced. This is the sign that you have healed and found someone on your level of consciousness but need to remain balanced and open in communication. The reverse three of swords is a very promising pull for the self and for your partner. It is a sign that you are both ready to grow and start the new path of life with each other together.

Pulling the three of swords in an emotion filled card that makes you realize how hurt you are. It shows you the red flags within your relationships and gives you the courage to move forward and heal. Whether you decide to heal through art, words, yoga, nature, or whatever path you take there is light at the end of the tunnel. There is always hope and this card is a reminder that you have the ability to move forward and come out stronger from abusive, toxic, and heart-breaking relationships.
